About the Director

María Florencia Álvarez was born in 1977 in Buenos Aires, where she lives and works. Her short film Sobre La Tierra (Upon the Earth) (2003) had its international premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and has won 14 international prizes. Perro Negro (Black Dog) (2005) won the first mention at the BAFICI Film Festival and took part in the Official Competition for the 43rd International Film Festival of Gijón, and in the Rencontres Cinémas d' Amérique Latine, Toulouse. Nena (Girl) (2010) competed, among other festivals, in ZINEBI, the 52nd International Documentaries and Shorts Festival of Bilbao, the 22nd International Shorts Festival of São Paulo and the 13th Belo Horizonte International Film Festival, winning the ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Short’ awards. Habi, la extranjera (Habi, the Foreigner) is her first feature-length film.
